Therapy for Kids

Our team uses client-centered, neurodivergent-affirming, & skill-based strategies to help children and teens:

  • improve their ability to regulate emotions

  • target anxiety and mood concerns

  • increase flexibility

  • bolster executive functioning

  • improve friendships and social relationships

  • build independent living skills

Treatment is always individualized to target specific goals based on each child’s unique needs and priorities, and skill-building practice is assigned outside of session to help with generalization into daily life. Clients that are an appropriate for our clinical services generally have diagnoses or difficulties related to autism, ADHD, anxiety disorders, depression and/or mood concerns.

Some of the approaches our therapists use include: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness, social skills (e.g., PEERS), exposure response prevention (ERP), parent management training (PMT), and parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT).

Therapy: What to Expect

  • Following a free consultation to determine appropriate fit for services, an intake appointment will be scheduled to gather background information, current presenting problems and concerns, and to begin to identify treatment targets for therapy.

  • Our therapists provide concrete, skills-based treatment, and clients can often make significant progress on a short-term basis. Treatment goals will be discussed with parents throughout to ensure progress. A treatment plan will be discussed at the initial intake appointment and continually addressed throughout therapy to make sure your family’s priorities are understood.

  • Telehealth services are available!

  • Parents are an active part of therapy for children and adolescents and will be integrated into sessions as needed to learn strategies that will facilitate treatment gains at home. Weekly “homework” will often be assigned for the child and parents to practice new skills and generalize gains across settings.
